PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Athenian School seeks an Upper School Engineering teacher to teach three sections for the spring semester, including two sections of Engineering and one section of Advanced Engineering. We are looking for an educator who will inspire students to think like engineers—curious, creative problem-solvers who design, build, test, and iterate. Candidates should be excited to collaborate on a curriculum that blends technical skills, hands-on making, and design thinking with real-world applications.
Strong candidates will also embrace opportunities to integrate Athenian’s Pillars—Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service—into classroom and project work. We seek a teacher who models lifelong learning, engages students in collaborative and experiential learning, and contributes to the vibrant life of our community outside the classroom.
Candidates for this role also have the opportunity to lead our Upper School robotics program which brings the role to 1.0.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates will bring cultural competency and a proven ability to work with students, families, and colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. We seek teachers with experience in engineering education, applied sciences, or related fields, and with the skills to guide students through both foundational and advanced engineering coursework. A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or a related discipline is required; an advanced degree and prior experience teaching high school students are preferred. Expertise in areas such as robotics, CAD, electronics, fabrication, or programming is highly valued.

Athenian provides excellent benefits and salaries are competitive and commensurate with work experience and education. Community members enjoy meals on campus and use of athletics facilities, including a pool, gym and fitness center. The annual full time salary basis for this role will range from $82,000 - $150,000 and will be prorated for the semester.
All employees are expected to attend all-school functions relevant to their role and to participate in supporting the student experience with other school duties as requested by their direct supervisor. All employees participate in school wide professional development, and have the opportunity to pursue a range of additional professional growth opportunities. Athenian provides needed training for CPR/AED certification.
