PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant to the Head of School supports the Head in all aspects of their work, requiring discretion, independent judgment, and confidentiality. This includes oversight of the Head’s schedule, acting independently and decisively in maintaining their calendar. A crucial part of the role is serving as a communication liaison among all constituencies, generating internal and external correspondence on the Head’s behalf and screening all inbound communication with diplomacy. The Assistant also serves as part of the school leadership team and acts as a liaison to the Board of Trustees, which involves disseminating information, assembling and publishing board meeting materials, scheduling meetings, and serving as recording secretary, preparing official minutes, and managing the trustee portal. Additionally, this role involves planning, organizing, and managing a variety of events and functions hosted by the Head, coordinating administrative matters, reviewing invoices and managing budgets, supervising receptionist staff, and serving on various school committees.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates will demonstrate exceptional discretion, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. They will be highly organized and adept at managing time effectively, with proven experience coordinating complex calendars and balancing multiple priorities. Clear and effective communication—interpersonal, written, and verbal—is essential for engaging with a wide range of constituencies. Candidates should be proficient with technology, particularly Google Workspace, and capable of planning, coordinating, and managing events and projects with efficiency. The role also calls for flexibility, initiative, problem-solving skills, and a collaborative mindset, as well as a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience is required, along with at least five years in an executive assistant, chief of staff, or comparable senior-level administrative position.

Athenian provides excellent benefits and salaries are competitive. The salary range for this role is $95,000 - $115,000, commensurate with work experience and education. Community members enjoy meals on campus and use of athletics facilities, including a pool, gym and fitness center.

These include, but are not limited to, funded participation in professional conferences and continuing education opportunities. Athenian provides needed training for CPR/AED certification.
All employees are expected to attend all-school functions relevant to their role and to participate in supporting the student experience with other school duties as requested by their direct supervisor.
